May 2023: More little beings:

April 2023: Spent six weeks in Puebla, Mexico and neighboring Cholula where ceramic sculptor Chuma Barrio is reviving pre-Columbian techniques. Here he is with his wood firing kiln.

Working with traditional hand-dug-from-the-volcano clay is a challenge – if it doesn’t crack while you’re working with it, it cracks after you’ve spent hours making a piece. We did our best:

Clay animals (“zoomorphic forms”) are as old as mud and human fingers. Little gods, magic charms, companions for the dead, toys, garden ornaments, knicknacks for the shelf. . . art? All of the above?
